Monthly Traffic
What is traffic and why is it limited?

- Generous levels of Internet activity included in monthly packages.
- All 1&1 Packages include an amount of monthly traffic for FREE!.
- Includes an accessible tariff and competitive overuse charges.
Traffic and bandwidth can be compared to pipes and the water that
flows in them. Traffic corresponds to the water and bandwidth to the
width of the pipe, therefore wider pipes equal more bandwidth.
Google experts define web traffic as:
“the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a website. This is determined by the number of visitors and the content of pages they visit...."
Every time an Internet user views a page on your website the
content, including HTML, images and other components, are downloaded
to the user's computer. This download of components of web pages to a
visitor's computer contributes toward the outgoing web traffic of the
web server.
To ensure each customer uses a fair amount of traffic, a number
of 1&1 packages have a monthly traffic quota. This quota is
dependant on package type and ranges from large allowances for
professional package users to entry level packages with more modest
limits, ideal for hobby sites, which generate less traffic.
What happens if I exceed my monthly traffic allowance?
1&1 Hosting Packages come with a very generous monthly traffic
allowance and it is highly unlikely you will exceed your limit.
However, you can set an alert in your Control Panel if you are
approaching your limit, allowing you to take action.
In the unlikely event your monthly traffic allowance is
exceeded, 1&1 do not stop any further traffic usage. Instead, we
charge customers a highly competitive standard rate of
99p per Gigabyte of additional traffic used, one of
the cheapest in the UK.
